Need engine schematic for dummies

I am looking for a real basic engine starting schematic or drawing. I have put the 350 I converted from TBI to carb on the chassis. I got tired of doing body work so thought I would see if this engine runs and is any good. My questions, this truck has no wiring in it at all. I am just looking to start the engine while it is setting securely in the frame with the tranney mounted. I pretty well have it all in place except for the radiator and thought I might do that tomorrow. I am not real good with this type of wiring. I simply want to start the engine. The starter is on it, what wires go to what on the solinoid, the engine has HEI for a carb, I have a switch that has Bat, Ign, Acc on it. What wires go where to start the engine? I have some rough ideas and have looked at some diagrams but they seem to be pretty elaborate. I am not going to hook up the alternator for this startup. Thanks for any help.

A basic solenoid has a large connector for the positive battery cable. This goes unswitched to the positive terminal.

The ground is usually through the starter on the motor itself, so you need to make sure you have it grounded.

the small Acc is what actually engages the starter. The acc only takes a small voltage and acts basically as a relay.

so if you have +12v at the positive terminal, +12v at acc, and a ground, your starter is turning over.

The other thing you need to make sure is that there is power to the coil and whatever other ignition components there are.

I hope this helps.

Re: Need engine schematic for dummies

on your switch the Bat terminal should be connected to +12v at all times.

the Ign goes to what ever needs to have power while you are cranking (the Acc on the starter i mentioned)

And the Acc on the switch is whatever you want power going to with the switch in the "on" position (radio, ignition components such as control module etc.)

Chuck - that is way cool, I was looking at the factory one wishing it was color coded, its hard to tell sometimes if wires are crossing or connecting. I'm at the same stage as the OP and it will help a bunch. Thanks

Re: Need engine schematic for dummies

Thanks for eveyones help. I got the engine running today and it looks like I will be able to use the 350 that came in a box with the truck. It sounds pretty strong, no smoke etc. Back to the bodywork.
