what to do????..UPDATE 8/9/09
Well I have a bit of a problem, the county is going around to everyone that has non-running vehicles in their yards and making them get rid of or repair them. I have my recently aquired 1 ton utility and my '78 C10. My wife has said one has to go.....but which one? I have too many options.
HELP! the '78....first pic the '76....second pic UPDATE!!! finally made up my mind

Re: what to do????
Around here if you have your cars in a "enclosed" area, AKA a building or slatted fence blocking the view, You can have as many cars in yard as you want.
Pretty stupid if you ask me, its your property.

Re: what to do????
You already have a truck for heavy hauling. Ditch the utility truck. Build up the 78.

Re: what to do????
Tell the wife that she needs to let her man have his hobbies.
But seriously, I would keep the 78. It just looks very clean and original. I'm guessing it has a motor and transmission where the 76 does not ?

Re: what to do????
Damn the man!
If you already have a truck for heavy hauling then I would go with the 78. If not go with the 76. Both are really nice trucks, so I don't know that you would really go wrong with eiter one. Sorry you have to make that decision though. |

Re: what to do????
I'd clean out the garage and put both of the non tagged trucks in there.

Re: what to do????
The only problem with the '78 is NO A/C. And I am planning on selling my crewcab.....UNLESS I convert it to a dually and lower it!
Then I can put the suspension from the crew on the '76 GMC and have my 1 ton pick up....MAYBE even convert it to 4x4. I think it is too clean to get rid of.

Re: what to do????
That sucks, I have a cab sitting behind the house now along with the body to a 28 model A that my friend owns. They've been there for 4-5 months and nobody has said anything, I would be real upset if someone made me hide or get rid of something I owned on my property.
Back on topic, I say keep the '76, it has more parts you could use. The '78 would be a good driver for someone or yourself, but......

Re: what to do????
Well, if it was my choice, I'd keep the 1 ton. I really like the service bed.
Yea, they're butt ugly but My 1 ton flat bed was/is my daily driver/tow rig (If I ever get the paint work done) and dosen't have nearly enough stowage space. That Reed bed will still hual a 4 X 8 sheet flat and 16 Ft. 2 X's from Hodepo and let you tow a big tag as well. Not much style, and won't do well with a goose neck trailer, but more bang for the buck. (IMHO) Paul (All my trucks are work trucks but some are prettier than others,LOL) |

Re: what to do????
I had that same problem in so cal. Neighboors complained about my "eyesores" and city made me move them. I ended up buying a used shipping container and leaving my projects in there. Safe secure and no more complaints
Good investment in my opinion...you might want to look into it. Containers can be had used for roughly 1000 if you get a small one, you might be able to keep the container on your property too. |

Re: what to do????
Well, I have made up my mind to keep the '78 and sell the dually utility truck. I dont have the heart to strip the original paint off the '76 Utility truck to paint black. The '78 is already for the minimal body work and paint.
DANG IT! I just sold my drop spindles!!!!! -Lance
