New to the board with an 82'

Hey fellas,

I am a 24 year old computer networking nerd, born and raised in Anchorage Alaska, and I love cars and truck as well as working on them. I have always loved this body style of truck; my first vehicle was a 79' GMC. I bought this truck a couple weeks ago exactly how it sits minus the bed liner. There are obvious areas of improvement.

I don't know exactly what kind of grill is currently on it (but it looks like a early 90's grill and I don't like it), I'm not sure what the 350 motor has had done to it except that it has more power than stock and sounds cammed, and I am not sure how it was lowered.

My initial plans involve a phantom grill, new rims, new door mirrors, a solid rear window, reupholster the benchseat, reupholster the door cards with black suede, and maybe do one piece door windows.

Does anyone know where I can get a kit or the parts to put a phantom grill on it?

Enough talk, here are the pics; they aren't great but at least there are lots of them.

Wow! Good looking truck. The grill you have is from the 89-91 Suburbans. I love the roll pan set up. Overall the truck looks great. But...the seat made me throw up in my mouth a little bit. You pay shipping to trade me rear windows and you can have my solid rear. No, really.

Oh, and welcome to the forums! Nice looking Audi too by the way.

Re: New to the board with an 82'

great looking truck! i dont like the painted grille, i think if you added the stock unpainted parts on it'd look good, in order to put a phantome you need an older 81-87 radiator support, unless you want to do some customizing/mods to your existing lights, and you'll need the chrome trim that goes around the grille, also maybe lights and turn signals, depending on if you get your support with them, hopes this helps, love the truck again!

Re: New to the board with an 82'

Welcome to the board. Truck looks good man. The red seat does kind of stick out there with the yellow and all. However the interior is an easy fix. I agree with TexasFunk. In order to switch to a phantom grill you will have to change back to the older core support. I agree with him also I would try and paint the grill back to a silver/gray color I think that would make a huge difference. At least until you could get the other grill done. You could also get the billet inserts to fit that grill. Wouldn't be a phantom, but looks pretty good.

i just got done trying to make a 81-87 phantom grille fit my 91 nose, no luck at all...the bottom park lights stick out way too far to work

I saw your poll thread, you ended up keeping the 91 front on it right?

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I spend some time going through the other threads at work today and you guys have some sick looking trucks.

Would these parts from an 82 suburban be the same or do they need to be from a c10? This suburban is being sold for parts for 500 bucks and has a lot of use able stuff on it.

If you were in the Mainland, you would have that other person easy. So you gonna send me your slider for my solid back glass?

Well, I called my mom who lives across town and she said I can use her driverway until winter hits. So hopefully I can sell enough of it to crush the rest by Octoberish.

And yes, yes I will.

Re: New to the board with an 82'

Alright, I am also thinking of going the route of getting the billet inserts for my current grill and then paint the yellow bezel around the headlights and turn signals black. It is looking good in my head so I will have my friend photoshop it tomorrow for a better idea of what it will really look like. oh, and maybe get a black bowtie or something... maybe a chrome one.

Re: New to the board with an 82'

I think going to billet inserts would look good. Maybe paint your emblem yellow & see how that looks. If you don't like it, go dark gray. And paint the bezels dark gray, I think black would be really noticeable with the rest of the truck.
