hose coming from top of the rearend

anyone know what this hose from the top of the rear end is for? I just looked under tonight and noticed it lead no where.

Cool..that was my first assumption...Its funny i have had this truck for a while but i have never really had the chance to go over it. Its always been everywhere but home.

my brother told me it was a breather incase if it gets to hot in the rear, so the pressure doesnt build up. but yea its a vent.

It is a breather/vent hose. If the gear oil heats up and creates pressure it has a place to release rather than just blowing out the gasket or seal.

There is a one way check valve on the end to prevent water from going through in the event the axle is submerged.
