spring rates for the rear end on coil overs

hey guys i have fabbed up a suspension set up and i have a set of coil overs on the rear i currently run a 100lb spring rate (100lbs to move 1 inch,) with it being a swb and ive done exstensive removal and tubing so it should be pretty light do you think its an acceptable spring rate or should i change it. ive noticed not very many people on here are interested in going fast but any input would be greatly appreciated thanks guys.

only you will know if it needs changing once you get it back on the road ... things such as spring rates are personal preference ... what someone else likes, you might not like ... and visa versa.

I think that sounds too light for a street truck. What I was told was that the proper spring for a drag application would be way too light for driving on the street. Bumps, dips, pot holes and that 'turning' thing! I had 120# springs on my '78 Monza and I'm sure it was lighter than your truck, even with you lightening it up. The only consolation is that the springs are pretty cheap so you can try a few sets. Some vendors even had an exchange program, of course that was 13 years ago.

Your spring rate will also change on how the coil over are Mounted. The angle on the coil over will also change the spring rate. Pro Shcoks has a Spring Rate Calculator to help you find the right mounting angle and spring rate for your needs.

I run a 175lb coil over but CA chassisworks reccomends a 200lb. for the rear of the 73-87s

its a 68 c-10 swb, competition engineering 3 way adjustable 17 uncompressed, 12.75 compressed with a 125lb spring rate is what i ended up going with.

the rearend is a 9inch with 33 spline axles and a full spool also and i kept the stock trailing arms because they are basically like a latter bar and i like the lift point of them im working on some brackets to give me pinion angle adjustment with the stock trailing arms.

125lb springs may be a little soft but I may be wrong. It may help you tranfer energy and then adj. the rebound to keep it planted. Let us know what you find.

will do thats what my plan is to do is adjust my rebound and not run any preload since the springs are so light but ill find out in a few weeks at the track im going to try launching on a 125 shot 1st stage, and when i hit drive hit the 250 shot so it will be interesting to see how it hooks.

well guys lol....how about a 2 year late update? .... i had to run a 200lb spring and had to go to a more adjustable shock i never got to use the bottle before i got deployed at the track but on the street on a hoosier quick time dot it HOOKED ... good enough to spit the drive shaft out on the bottle... i just wanted to give an update and let you guys know how much your knowledge is used on the site!
