Re: new project! 62 4X4

I think the guy that painted the dash on the truck I picked up must have let his 3 y/o paint it.

Not sure about the 78 seat, but have seen the 88 and up seats and they are a nice fit. The 78 has a raised section behind the floorboard that may make the 78 seat sit too low in the 62. I think the seat frame is lower.

Re: new project! 62 4X4

I could make a frame for the seat if it would fit width-wise. I am wondering what size tires came from the factory. The ones on it now are 35x12.5's and the bedside struts cause an interference. I might go with some skinnier 31's or 33's for a semi factory look. wonder what that would look like... I think the giant ballon tires look rediculous. Here's a pic of "El Smurfo Grande" just for fun. It's been a good truck. Small block 400 NP205 Th350, heavy half. I might sell it whenn I get the 62 roadworthy, but I might just keep it around for my son. I haven't decided yet. He's 2.5yrs old so it might be a while

Re: new project! 62 4X4

By the time the boy grows up it will be a classic! I have some original sales brochures at home for the 60's 4x4's. As I recall the original tire size was like a 7.00x15. Like I mentioned earlier though if you could find some 16" tubless six lug wheels 9.00x16 tires and wheels would look pretty good under there. Not to mention the tall, skinny tires make it a lot easier to steer.
P.S. You can never have too many trucks!

Re: new project! 62 4X4

does anyone know if the 292 will bolt up in place of my 235? not sure if it has the pad for a front motor mount. also wondering about the bolt pattern on the bell housing.

Re: new project! 62 4X4

The 292 won't bolt up to the 235 bellhousing either. You'd have to change the bellhousing and find or fabricate some side motor mounts for the 292.
