you have a pic of the burr bit? do you think the hole saw will work?

this is what i bought, except mine is 1 1/2" with a bit on the inside

I think the frame is too tough for that hole saw to last. Plus it doesn't need to be that big.

oh, ok. i seen one of those. well i guess ill tear it back down tomorrow after work and see how far i get lol

I used a hole saw on mine, but unless your template it perfect you will still need the burr bit to elongate the hole one way or the other. Also when you are drilling make sure you are using something like WD-40 so you don't tear your bits up. It will cut faster and help cool down those metal shavings so they don't burn you if some should get on you.

I've used a hole saw to drill holes in metal several times, but this is not the time or place for it ( I also used a very slow RPM, a drill press, and LOTS of tap magic). Get a nice set of unibits and they should run through the frame like butter.

Ageed. Spend the money for a pro unibit up to the size you need. It will cut through 50x faster than the hole-saw.

well i guess im gonna return this hole saw since i havent used it. i checked around home depot and the biggest they have is up to 7/8, which is too small. i found this one on the lowes website...i think it should be big enough.

Stay away from Lowes for this kind of tool. Go to Grainger or Fastenall (etc....) for a 'pro' type of bit vs. 'handyman' special.

Yeah I'm thinking the reason you had trouble with the first unibit was because it was low quality. I have a set made by Lenox that I've never had a problem with.

i thought irwin was a good brand? i dont think i have one of those around my area...the first one i bought was from harbor freight lol, so i know why that one broke

*edit* i just checked both of their sites and they both carry irwin brand step bits

Home Depot sells them in the electrical department, the brand of theirs is greenlee and they are around $50.

Some of Fastenals drill bits are pure crap, I would use 3 fastenal bits to one dewalt bit. That was drilling on stainless steal. Also there cut off wheels arnt that good, I would stay away from fastenals blackstone brand.

the only ones i seen at home depot were irwin but only went up to 7/8..i only checked in where the the drills and saws and air tools were. thats where they had all the bits

Try the electrical department in Depot/Lowes as mentioned. You could also check a tractor supply store if they have one in your area.

I found it at home depot..50 bucks! I got it anyways, gonna try it out today. its the same one in the picture I posted, made by irwin
