Brake light help.......
anybody got an idea where to start looking? I have turn signal markers and running lights on the rear but no brake lights. I checked the bulbs and the fuse. . . could it be a bad stop lamp switch?
Thanks |

Re: Brake light help.......
What year and does it have cruise? Check the switch by shorting out the 2 wires (orange & white) and see if lights come on. Do the 4 way flashers work? If they do, step on the brake and see if they stop flashing. If they do the switch is ok. The brake light circut travels thru the signal light switch. If you short the brake switch and you have power there but no lights out back suspect the signal light switch. I can call you and run you thru it if you want. jim

Re: Brake light help.......
Take test light and check for power to orange wire at switch. If so, connect orange wire to white wire at switch. Lights should come on.

I didn't get to shorting the wires. . did check and the 4 way flashers do not work. . the guy i bought the truck from did a manual to automatic swap and put in a different steering column. .I did look at the brakelamp switch and noticed another set of wires coming off the top along with the orange and white wires. . .from some pics i looked at it looks like it has a stop switch that has cruise. . .could that be my problem since i don't have cruise |

Re: Brake light help.......
Sounds Like the problem may be in the cab, but you might want to check for broken wires in the rear harness. My dad had a '86 Sub that needed a new harness, because the stock one had gotten so brittle. Every time I touched it another wire broke.
