I'm converting a '68 leaf truck that was already notched with a flip kit to a bagged trailing arm set up. In the mock up I'm noticing that the axle needs to move back about an inch or a little more to really sit in the notch. Why would this be. The leaf axle sat right in the notch. I'm going to stick the bed on tomorrow and see what it looks like. I may have to add a spacer between the trailing arm brackets and the crossmember.

Got the bed on. I was hoping the wheel would be about an inch or two off so I would know what to do, but it's not. Looks pretty centered to me. Now I don't know what to do. I'm so frustrated.

Do you have your trailing arm crossmember "located" correctly?
Your wheels base should be 115 inch.

Edit: (I'm a slow typer)
Looks centered in the rear fender to me.
I would still check the wheelbase length.

I would cut out the "weld in" c-notch and purchase a bolt in c-notch. The frame hole will be slightly bigger,... but the extra metal from the bolt in notch will help support it. You could even add some welds to the bolt in notch if you are worried about it.

I did measure where the middle crossmember was and compare it to the one on my coil frame. It measured out right. I just drilled out the rivets on the trailing arm brackets and bolted them to the crossmember on the leaf frame.

Well, the front end is off of it right now. It's down to the bare frame in front. Is there a way to check it without the front crossmember?

If that picture of the wheel in the fender is a straight on shot, then the wheel is back a good inch or two too far.
Follow the fender curve around and note where the tire finally cuts in and out of it. It cuts in way earlier in the back than the front. The wheel is definitely too far back in that picture.

There's not really anything I can do about that short of moving the crossmember. If I moved the axle back to fit the notch, then it would really be too far back.

But the pictures show the axle is forward of the notch, like the wheelbase would be shorter not longer. It's a head scratcher.
