A few questions regarding doors...
A few questions regarding doors...
1-What is involved in swapping over power doors from a ‘81-‘91 cab to a non-power '77 truck? Specifically the wiring. Is it a plug-and play set up? 2-Does anyone have any experience with the ‘replacement’ door panels offered by LMC, Classis, et al? What is the fit and finish like? Anyone have any real world pics? It’s hard to tell looking at the pics in the catalogs. |

you just need the power windows/locks wiring in the doors and the harness that runs under the dash along with the lock relay mounted under the steering column (kinda a PITA to get to). there are 3 wires on the harness that have to be hooked up. A constant hot, a switched hot, and a ground wire. if your fuse block has the blade type fuses, it should have places to pug in the 2 hot wires, the plugs on them will only allow them to be plugged into the proper spots, and the ground plugs onto a ground buss behind the instrument cluster. It is pretty simple. you will probably need to drill holes in the cab to hook up the rubber wireway to run the wires into the cab. I have a thread about it around here somewhere..... as far as the door panels, I have no experience with them.

Re: A few questions regarding doors...
No, they are the glass-cylinder type(the name escapes me right now).
Sounds like more work than I'm willing to do right now. Honestly, with ice cold A/C, power windows are really not that high on my priority list. |

Re: A few questions regarding doors...
FYI- If you want to do it right, you will need to pull the doors to cut the holes large enough to use the factory accordion boot.

Re: A few questions regarding doors...
He was talking about swapping doors, so they would be off anyway, and I said probably because my '80 doesn't have power doors but it already has the "accordion boots" (thanks for that, i couldn't think of what to call them )

Re: A few questions regarding doors...
replacement panels are a pain in the butt if you don't have the body shop tools involved but it can be done. need a welder or a set of torches to melt down the lead to re attach door skins so..... you do the math is it something you are willing to invest the time in right now as it could take a few days and if you intend on doin the pain and body work also it will take even longer. an experienced body man could change the door skins for ya in a few hours though if he has all the tools involved. hope what little insight i have helps ya
