Improving my 47's snails pace
I have a 47 with a 216 and a 4 speed...I have plenty of power, but the original rear end is limiting my top speed to about 50. What gearing should I be trying to put into the rear end and any ideas where I can get the right gears?

Re: Improving my 47's snails pace
I think there are aftermarket 3:55 gears available. That would give you better cruising rpm's, more mph, and still pull the truck decently. I'm sure most of the aftermarket companies carry the gears and installation kits. There may be a sponsor on here that has them. Classic Parts, LMC, Brothers, Jim Carter. Check them out.

Look about half way down the page. $400 for 3.55's and another $300 for installation kit - whatever that is.
Post a thread if you buy these and how the purchase, installation goes, and the results. Best, Dan http://www.patricksantiquecars.com/chevyparts.htm |
