What axle do i have?
I have a 65 1/2 ton gmc and i would like to know how to identify what axle i have and if i need to chance it to a 12 bolt.(im putting a 454 in it) It has leaf springs and its a 6 lug

It is a 12 bolt 30 spline, to figure the gears you can take the cover off and count the teeth on the gears.

GMC also installed Dana rearends in their 1/2 tons.
Could be either. |

its not a 12 bolt i know that. It only has 10 bolts so im thinking its a dana does any one no how to find out if its a dana 44 or 60 or gm 10 bolt

The 1/2 ton GMC's with the leaf springs typically had Dana 44's. Probably not the best differential for your application. Probably the easiest and most economical swap would be a 12 bolt. They will take a fair amount of abuse in stock form and there are lots of aftermarket parts available for them. If you want to stay with 6 lugs, look for one out of a pre 1980 K10 or K5 Blazer.
