The catalog places like Brothers or Ecklers sells them pretty cheap in 15".

OK, now I need some help figuring out whether I go with the 15x6, the 15x7 or the 15x8 rims.

Im pretty new to the idea of tire sizes and such, so please bare with me.

Since i dont have power steering, would it be wiser for me to go with the 15x6 rims since a smaller radial tire should have less surface area?

Also, what size tires do i tell the tire store I will need if I go with the 15x6 rims.

If you order, check them all, prices can vary a lot on the same item from place to place. Sorry I can't help you with tire size recommendations. I don't know what will fit in the '47-'54 trucks.

Here are the sizes I measured on the tires:

Height of tire (ground to top of Bias tire): 29"
Width of tread: 5.5"
Rim to rim width: 17"
Hubcap width: 10"

Check shipping charges too. The west coast guys like Brothers are very expensive to ship to the east coast.

I was at the Turkey Rod Run and there was a guy from Maine who was selling the same as Stockton Tire but his priices were alot better and he was knowledgeable. He can also assist with the size. Around here the tire stores all have chrome wheels and baby moons. I think one of the manufacturers has a site that goes through the process of determining offset and clearances based on different wheel sizes. Local guys should be able to tell you what range of tire sizes are appropriate for different wheel sizes.

I've just used a stock rim, with and without a tire mounted, and carpenters and drywall squares and cardboard templates to check clearances. On the front make sure you check through out the full range of steering. In the back allow for loading. And even with all the prep measurements be prepared to make changes. On my Chevelle I found every thing was fine in static unloaded and loaded but when actually driveing there was just enough flex in the rear end suspension to cause rubbing on one side when turning at speed.
