91 Jimmy front onto a 83
Just going to look at a 91 Jimmy front clip tonight. I think I would prefer the Blazer grille, but we'll see.
To do the conversion, do I need the newer rad support and is there a difference in Radiators? How about the wiring harness? The clip is supposed to be in very good shape and I can get fenders, hood, grille and bumpers for $500 or a bit less. The owner was going to fix her up but found the floor rotted from the front to the back, so instead is going to use the frame and drive train to put under a 193?'s truck. Is the dash or any other parts useable on my 83? Will find out more tonight about what all is there. Any pictures of trucks with the Jimmy front? Thanks

You will need the radiator support, lights, grille and bezels, bumper filler, and wiring harness. The rest of the front sheetmetal and doors will work on your truck, as will the dash components (except the gauges).

Re: 91 Jimmy front onto a 83
You will have to splice the wiring harness into your harness. I have a 90 Blazer and the wiring harness plug at the firewall is different than my dad's 84 truck or our old 86 Blazer...

Re: 91 Jimmy front onto a 83
I did the Jimmy clip on my 86. As said above, you need the radiator support, grill, bezels, lights, filler panel for below the grill, and the harness. You can just cut the harness off back by the firewall on the Jimmy, and then splice it in to yours. A TIP I learned from doing mine: do not splice all the wires together at the same point, stagger them out some so they can still fit in the split loom easily. The swap is simple and straight forward. All of the bolts from the fender to the rad support will match so you don't need to track those too close. If you want more directions on how to I would be more than happy to type it all up. Just send me a PM.
Edit: Here is a picture

Here is one more of the Jimmy clip set in place before the grill and bezels were put on. Hope this all helps any of you wanting to do the Suburban or Jimmy clip on a truck. Now you can see how it goes...sorta.

Re: 91 Jimmy front onto a 83
Well I went and looked at the 1991 Jimmy and came back confused.
The parts are in good condition but not what I expected. The front grille is I guess from a base model and is painted silver and uses a single large rectangular headlight on each side with lower marker lights and in this case it was actually a Chevy grille with the bowtie. Looked alot like the grille on the 94 Chev work van that I drive. The fenders are in great shape, rad support has some scale on it, the bumper was straight but had some chrome bubbling/rust at drivers lower side about the size of a silver dollar. He doesn't want to give the wiring harness as he wants to keep it with the engine and frame to adapt to the 1937 Ford truck he is building. Are there several different grilles in 91 and are the rad supports all the same? Thanks Found picture of a 91 burb with the same grille

Re: 91 Jimmy front onto a 83
Yeah there are two different types. You need to find one from a 1500 series. The wiring harness you need only goes to the lights and washer bottle. There are out there, keep searching.

Re: 91 Jimmy front onto a 83
That is the base model grille (with the single headlamps). If you are going to swap, I would find teh ones with dual headlamps, to make it worth your time (IMO).
