'54 grill swap?

What does it take to swap a 54/55 first series grill to the 47-53? Grille, hood, fenders, raditator support?

Re: '54 grill swap?

You have to change the front fenders. The hood will fit either grill, and the core support should be the same for both styles as well.

Make sure you get the lower grille support too, they're different.

Re: '54 grill swap?

The older fenders will work if you make a recess for the turn signals. The hood emblem is different if you want a stock look, but then the bed, dash, and windshield are too. I was told the front splash pan/apron is different. I have both if you want me to check for you.

Re: '54 grill swap?

Thanks for the input guys. I'm asking because I keep running across the '54's and wouldn't pass on a good one just because of the grill (not my favorite look).

Thanks for the offer, please don't go to that trouble. Where are you at in Arkansas?

Re: '54 grill swap?

I wish I had that problem. It's taken two years to get enough parts to build a 54. Oh yea, I'm in Benton.

Re: '54 grill swap?

Until this year, all I had was 54s. Yep, splash apron is different because of the front shape.

You've got to make recesses in the fenders for the marker lights AND the fenders aren't the same length at the front edge. Inner fenders say they are different but I don't see it, maybe in the mounting holes at the front. We put '51 inners in Court's truck. Hood emblem mounting bosses are in different locations.

If you find extra parts you don't need, I might be up for them!! Buy all the grills because you always find bent bars. We used three to make our first one! Get the fenders, too!
