Re: got my paint scheme!
thanx! and i was thinking of just using an onyx black top, but i love the metallic, and i was going to do a pearl midcoat, what i was thinking is some bright blue pearl, mixed in with some clear basecoat, and putting it over the green and blue only, but we'll see whst happens

Re: got my paint scheme!
With the holographic flake, it doesn't take a whole lot. Like dipping your mixing stick in teh can with the flake, and adding that to a gun of clear. You don't get the effect in the building, but it coems alive outside. We painted a friend of mine's 2002 Mustang back True Blue, and did that over the clear. You could pick it up slightly in the shop, but it really looked good outside. I like using the pearls suspended in a midcoat, so they are not so overpowering.
Another favorite of mine has been to use the mid 90's Dodge truck Driftwood (silver), and quadruple the flop adjuster, and triple teh gold pearl in it, then add some violet pearl. It gives off a really cool glow that goes almost from a green glow to a blue under streetlights. I did my 91 Mustang like that, and had stupid offers on it before it was even trimmed out. Should have kept that one..... |

Re: got my paint scheme!
You could look at using the Nighthawk Blue Pearl from Honda/Acura. Sorry, I can't remember the code right now, but it is a killer color. Basically ends up looking black with blue pearl. My paint rep is going to try to get me a 3000 to demo, and see what I think.

When I was in high school, my old man had a Lincoln Mark VII. This was still a pretty new car at the time (probably '90 or '91). Anyhow, I wrecked it on his birthday. He elected that I was going to fix it. I had just painted a Firebird white with blue pearl, and it turned out pretty well, and we had a lot of paint left over. The Lincoln was a funky shade of medium blue, with a blue interior. I experimented with it over black, and came up with a nice shade of dark blue that would have looked good on the car. Anyhow, I fixed it (header panel, lights, hood, fenders, and bumper) and got the car prepped and shot black. My old man painted cars in the late 60's and early 70's in California when he was on leave in the Navy, so he told me he was going to handle it, and show me a real custom paint job. So I went to bed, and let him go at it. When I went out to check it out the next morning, it was almost purple! He said the midcoat tiger striped, so when he went to chase it, it turned ugly. After all of that, I never drove his car agian (I didn't want to be seen in that thing--- it was hideous!) |

Re: got my paint scheme!
I like your colors and wouldn't worry about it looking like the truck posted. The theme you are using has been done on more than one truck.
Since you are asking opinions, I'll be honest here. The tribal pattern you are using to break to colors is too big in my mind. It seems to over power the rest of the truck. If that's the effect you are after, then I am wrong. I feel it would look cleaner if it were about half the size you have it laid out now.

Re: got my paint scheme!
yea, today i was think9ng that, i thought maybe because the small s-10 fender isnt as big as a c-10, i also think the pinstripe is a lil thick, but, i was talkin to the instructors and we all think maybe once its spread out over a bigger canvas it will look better, but on my rendering they're small, so i did do them a little bigger, but we'll see when we get on the truck how it goes

Re: got my paint scheme!
Just offering a different perspective. If you want the design to be dominant, then your on track. I think a small more subtle version would allow the two tone to be more prevalent.
Are you going to shade under the graphics? that would make it pop.

Re: got my paint scheme!
Here';s a couple of examples of a more subdued graphic break.
I feel you are after something more dramatic, but this offers you a visual of what I am referring to.

Re: got my paint scheme!
I agree with these guys! It looks good, but i think the smaller graphic will look great! Also i think the thinner pinstripe and under shaddow will make it pop! Thats my.02 other than that, ill be happy to see this thing rollin around town!

Re: got my paint scheme!
i agree! at the time the only place in levelland with fineline only had 1/8th, which is also a reason they are so big, if i bent the tape anymore it would have had bleedthrough, but fot the truck im using 1/16th, if i use that i can get the bends and tribals smaller, and i agree it will lookmuch better! thanx for all the input guys and keeping it positive!
