Gas Cap that doesn't leak?
I have a gas cap that leaks like crazy every time I take a right turn. It is only 4 months old and it not one of those crappy Autozone ones. It is one that has the rubber compression gasket. Does anyone know of a place that makes a gas cap that does not leak or allow fuel to escape the gas tank inlet when turning. I can not predict my gas mileage due to the half a gallon of gas I loose every time I take a right turn. It would also be nice if were a locking type cap also. Can anyone help me?
Thanks Ben |

O'Riley's. $12. Locking. My last one lasted for almost two years, but I got some road salt in the tumblers and couldn't unlock it. Got a new one and it works great. They just push on and seal tight.

I had smells in the cab so I bought new cap and replaced all vent hoses on tank in cab. I bought one from Chevy Duty and had the same problem. After tightening it down, I just reversed it an inch or so and it began to tighten up with no slop. Seals perfectly that way. No more spillls down the side of the truck when turning corners. I'll probably replace it again soon though.

Try NAPA gas cap #703-1220, $10 (+/- a buck or so). This is the only cap that I found that does'nt leak.

Let me ask a question here : Does anybody know of an original looking gas cap that doesn't leak? I'm having a hard time finding an original looking gas cap at all - it would be nice to find a new one that doesn't leak also. :p

The NAPA gas cap (#703-1220) is original looking ( non-locking style cap). It is not a perfect match to a factory original, but very close. The best thing....... it keeps the gas in the tank. Also, it is important to check the gas tank filler tube for nicks/dings (the surface edge where the cap seals against). This mating surface should be smooth & flat.

I think I might try to adapt a new style flap hole like the ones on newer model vehicles, you know with the small hole and the flap you push in witht he nozzle of the fill spout. I think that might help and then the fu***ng nozzle won't shoot out of the hole spraying full blast all over the side of the truck and all over the d@mn ground. I'm over it, really I am.

i had the same experiance only once though ...... it sucksed because i had to clean all the gas off my truck but the attendant was standing right there and got a good dose on his shirt .... FYi- were not alllowed to pump our own gas in Oregon ... so i don't have to worry about being sprayed...just paying for that spray :p ![]()

The paint down the entire corner of my cab has started to spider web crack and fall off. FYI: Don't park on the side of hills either!

The following is taken directly from the text of ORS 480.330:
"An owner, operator or employee of a filling station service station, garage, or other dispensary where class 1 flammable liquids are dispensed at retail may not permit any person other than the owner, operator or employee to use or manipulate any pump, hose, pipe or other device for dispensing the liquids into the fuel tank of a motor vehicle or other retail container." ORS 480.385, Civil penalty for dispensing law violation: Civil penalty shall become due and payable 10 days after order: up to $500. I'll be damned, you learn something new every day....

I heard bout that...guess it makes jobs, which I'm all for. That's why I hate the Garbage Trucks with the stupid hyd. arm....1/2 the sanitation department lost there jobs overnight...but I guess that's another thread for another time.
I have had both locking and non locking fuel caps, from auto zone, and neither of them leaked a drop. Stant is the brand you need. |

I used to have the problem of splash-back when filling up. I now run the gas at the highest fill rate until I know I am about full. I then slow the fill rate to the lowest rate for the last gallon or two. The auto shut off will work well and it doesn't splash all over me and the side of the pickup.
