Re: Quadrajet Help!
Sounds to me like you have a fuel delivery problem..crank it without the line attached and see if it is pumping at all..if not pump could be bad ..have you replaced pump lately?..if so did you make sure the fuel pump rod was set up with the pump properly?..easy to do...before pump install coat the one end of rod with white lithium grease and that will help hold the rod in while you install pump..make sure all lines are connected properly from gas tank up and no leaks..I have accidentally hooked up return and fuel line backwards before..lol..I do believe you have a delivery problem and it's prolly the pump.

Re: Quadrajet Help!
well the other day i disconnected the fuel line and stuck it into a water bottle. while cranking it, the bottle filled rather quickly. but no i haven't replaced the pump lately, but i figured if it was running ok before the carb rebuild, then that would rule out the pump

Re: Quadrajet Help!
I would strongly recommend you check it again..In my experience fuel pumps go out quickly..One second yer running..next yer dead..diaphragm internally could have broken and kaput..Everything yer doin at this point is diagnostic to rule out everything.

oh well, i picked up a 1973 q-jet from a friend. i removed all my emissions stuff, plugged holes etc. then rebuilt the 73 carb even better than my stock one, but i'm having to do a few modifications to get the accelerator cable and return springs to fit right. also trying to figure out this different style choke. my original carb had lines running into the manifold as a heating element for the choke. but this 73 carb is set-up totally different. can anyone shed some light on how i can make this work?

Re: Quadrajet Help!
why not take the choke off of yer 79 carb and install it on the 73?..should allow you to hook it up to yer original line..By the way how is the rest going?

Re: Quadrajet Help!
I have that kind of carb, I think. if the choke is like this one
Then what I did is hook up a universal manual choke. Oh, yeah, I have that port blocked off now.

its fairly easy, but a couple things I learned is that you have to drill out the hole slightly more then what it is now. IDK if you can see in the last pic but all I used is the pin and set screw on the carb and then have the line held by the bracket set up like a clamp. I will help you more if you need it. and will also take more pics if you need it. total cost for me to do it was about 15 bucks and 3 hours+ but thats only cause I had a hard time figuring how it all worked. anyway, let me know if thats what you want to do and I will help you more!

Re: Quadrajet Help!
if you have any questions about how to do it let me know!
It can be done to look better. mine is not a shining example of making it look nice. I was just trying to get it to work lol.

Re: Quadrajet Help!
i did, apparently the float level was messed up. so when it was dry in the bowl the needle wasn't lifting up allowing fuel to come in. i thought i adjusted the float level exactly how the directions said to...but oh well, it's all a learning experience
