GMC compatibility with Chevy

My friend is buying a 1977 GMC Sierra 1/2 Ton 2wd, I have a few questions.

I have a set of tires laying around (they'll fit), he wants them...and in trade he will give me the grillguard on it. He doesn't like them.

Will the grillguard off the '77 GMC fit my '79 K10?

Will my old q-jet fit on it if it has the stock intake manifold?

Will the hoods interchange? (Wants to cut up mine to try to make a home-made cowl because it's starting to crumple)

Lastly, are there any differences in the tail lights? It's missing them and I have 4 pairs laying around.

Just about the only differences in the Chevy's and GMC's is in trims. Grilles, emblems, etc..

Re: GMC compatibility with Chevy

i think after 69/70 ish, GMC became identical with chevy. And were and are built on the same assm line.

This blows me away as i thought that GMC always used chevy engines and used the exact, same chassis.

But no! GMC made their own engines all the way to 74 and used some of their own in the own trucks exclusively.

Yes, i meant for light duty trucks by 73 ALL gmc light duty trucks used chevy engines. GMC still made their own engines for medium dutys---a fascinating topic in and of itself.

i think from 60 to 68, you could only get a gmc pickup with a gmc 6 cyl. And before that, they used pontiac engines.

You could actually get 1960-1968 GMC pickups with 230/ 292 and 283 chevy motors. My 64 GMC is an original 230. Most gmc's of that era had their own V6 though.

REally? Well that is interesting in that you get a choice between v-6 and inline.
