Can anyone run numbers on axle?
If I provide the stamped numbers on my axles on a 79 4x4 Jimmy, can anyone tell me what the ratio is?

Re: Can anyone run numbers on axle?
They have to be on the ring gear itself, GM doesn't use BOM numbers like Dana.

Re: Can anyone run numbers on axle?
Well as I expected the front and back axles are different
Back has 43 on ring 14 on pinion = 3.07 Front has 41 on ring and 14 on pinion = 2.93 Does this sound right for the front axle?

As b454rat said, the numbers on the outside can't tell you much, but the numbers that are actually on the ring gear do indicate the ratio. Is this an automatic truck? Stick shift Blazers and Jimmys in the square body are are not that common

Re: Can anyone run numbers on axle?
I counted the teeth. It is a automatic.
I think I will count them again before I put on the cover if this doesnt sound right. I didnt find a number stamped on the ring gear yet.

Re: Can anyone run numbers on axle?
I guess i need to learn how to count The front axle has 40 on ring and 13 on pinon that should equal 3.07.
Wonder why the teeth count are different on the front and back?

Re: Can anyone run numbers on axle?
dana used a different gear count than gm. the front is considered a 3.08 and the rear a 3.07. mathematically the front comes to 3.076 and the rear 3.071. thats normal you have the correct gears and ratios match.
