ls1 in my longbed
i am putting an ls1 in my 71 and i am using the gm performance parts carb conversion kit using the front mounted distributor. i need to know if anyone has used this set up and if so how did u mount ur power steering and and alternator.

Hi have you seen the controllers GMPP makes for the LS1 for carb applications? It uses the cank position sensor to fire the coils, less moving parts. I have never seen anyone use the distributor setup. I believe you use a ford dist.

yea it uses the sb ford distributor i was going to try to find out if it moves the balancer out. if not im going to use a custom billet specialties kit to do it.

I would use an MSD box for it. DIS is way more accurate, and it will give you tuneablility with a laptop, as well as better fuel mileage, and economy. By the time you buy a distributor, front cover, and everything else needed, you'll have the same money invested as a cheap laptop and the MSD DIS kit.

If you search for HorsepowerTV episodes, they done a carb and distributor setup on a LS1 and put it on a engine dyno. Produced alot of power....

I watched that episode as well. They made 490 hp with the conversion kit and a comp cams thumper cam. The kit makes cam swaps about as simple as a regular SBC. I was surprised at how much power it made.
