Just a thought about campers

Hi to all ,
I was thinking of putting a camper on my longbed C10 (about getting low... )
But the payload is only 1/2 ton , is this feasible ?
Or do I have to change my rear axle ?
And if I have to change the axle , I presume the suspension also has to be altered , mmm?
Is the frame the same for all trucks ?
Thanks for your answers

A 1/2 ton should have no problem, those campers aren't that heavy...

There is no way I would do it to a 1/2 ton.
Those things are just too top heavy.
They don't even work well on a 3/4 ton with dual rears.

How many do you see out there with a camper on them?
I see one every 5 years. There is a reason for that.

Get you a small tag-along camper and you will be okay.

I tow one.

your 1/2 ton will handle it just fine. my dad had one when he had his '86 C10. it will squat quite a bit in the back, unless you get a really light one. you may want to add an extra helper spring in the rear if you plan on hauling it very often.

My uncle had one. It made the rear squat so he got helper airbags (NOT the bags you guys are thinking about!) Worked great!

You want to lug that thing around with you every where you go ? I hated the shell my truck came with.

camper

Hi to all ,
thanks for your comments.
About campers versus trailers :
a camper is easier for travelling purposes , as when I'm going on vacation , I don't stay more than two or three nights on the same place.
A trailer is more comfortable , but it is too heavy to haul & handle.

I went on the Alaskan Campers website , they look very nice , are pricy , and weight 2000 pounds , a load my C10 won't bear...

I was thinking of building a camper by myself , has anyone any idea where I could find some plans ?

Cheers

The Baron
