1968 Hand Operated E-Brake Brackets - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Can anyone either recommend where to find, or show a pic of how your hand operated E-Brake is attached to your automatic transmission. I have a 68 with a TH400 trans that was swapped out, and I need to figure out how to hook my e-brake back up for inspection purposes. I sure am glad I didn't just cut everything out. There must be a bracket that is used to mount it to the trans, right? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The 68 e-brake mounts under the column and has cables that run all the way back to the rear axle to lock up the rear brakes. It doesnt hook to the transmission, unless theres some other origional setup that i dont know of? Hope that helps, Dan

Oh wow! that somewhat looks similar to what I have, but my e-brake is mounted on the floor, next to the shifter.....hmmm

The 4th pick down in this posting shows a black handle under the drivers side of the dash, this is where the original e brake handle was mounted. Hope this helps you some.

I know it's hard to see on a black truck, sorry I was too lazy to go take a pic of the one in my 67 LOL.

it looks like they took a stock e brake handle and mounted it on the side of the transmission.

Well I guess I'm gonna be in a doozy, because I swapped out the 3 speed it had for the TH400 and I don't have any clue as to how it was mounted to the 3 speed.

By the looks of the picture the bracket is not mounted to the transmission. It looks to be mounted to an automatic crossmember. If not and it is just setting there, you may be able to fab a bracket for it and mount it to the crossmember. It definetly is not stock though. WES

Yes, it is basically just hanging there right now. But before, it was mounted to the trans with a bracket, but since that trans is gone, I need to figure out a way to mount it to something so I can use it.
