Frame swap questions
Hey guys, I have a question about swapping frames
I have a 67 chevy that I Z'd the rear & cupped my LCAs Thing is I just dont like how it turned out I also have a bagged 89 & they are MUCH easier to make lay frame I can get my hands on a 88-98 frame for basically free (complete minus rear axle) I know that the 88-98 frames are about 11" wider because the fuel tanks are on the inside of the frame But does anyone know if there is a difference in track width ? Im not worried about wheel base differences, as its easy to shorten or lengthen a frame (to me anyway) And I know all the body mounts have to be moved to the inside of the frame My main concern is the track width as that is hard to change on the front I would just measure the difference myself, but I dont have the front suspension on my 89 I know a guy that swapped his 67 on a 4x4 88-98 frame, but track width isnt such a concern on a 4x4 Thanks, Matt |

Re: Frame swap questions
Are you sure about that? I thought the 88-98 rear axle was wider.

Re: Frame swap questions
I am doing a frame swap with a 64 c-20 cab on a 88 c-1500 frame. i could measure the track witdth on my truck. do i measure from inside to inside of tire or center of tire? also when you lowered your 89 truck how did you lower the rear suspension? i allready channeled the cab 5 inches.

Re: Frame swap questions
I would guess that the best way to measure track with is from the wheel mounting flange of the rotor to the wheel mounting flange of the opposite rotor. I say this because of rim width and back spacing, different set ups would net different dimensions to the center of the tire or even to the inside of the rims lip.

Re: Frame swap questions
The 89 is on bags & lays frame, so it has a step notch in the rear
I just need the measurement form hub face to hub face, then I can measure my 67 when I get a chance Last edited by Spray-Bomb; 01-20-2010 at 10:08 PM. |

What is it on a 67-72 ? I know 71-72's are about 1-3/4" wider than the earlier ones |
