I believe the state of Texas in 1975 went to a more gerentic type plates without the date on them, so as far as getting any year after that I would say you are out of luck.

Re: 1973 Texas Truck Plates NOS

Was the year specific to the year of the vehicle, or did the year just state when the plates were issued ?

Ya that's what sucks about my 80s trucks. I guess ill just have to buy an older truck so I can put classic plates on it.

That's a very good price for those plates. I see them all the time at shows, believe me, 45 bux is cheap!

Re: 1973 Texas Truck Plates NOS

So I take it that you got new plates every year for registration back then ?

I know at some point they went with stickers on the plate, then around 94-95 they went with windshield stickers.

Re: 1973 Texas Truck Plates NOS

I know that in Illinois they ran a stamped year on the plate at least til 79. I'd like to get some 81 Illinois plates or a plate with 1981 stamped into it.

Re: 1973 Texas Truck Plates NOS

I am not sure of all the rules but in Texas I believe that you can use older plates if they have never been issued before. I had a set for my '68 cutlass that I sold with the car, and the guy that bought it after restoration used the old 1968 plates to registar the car.

Re: 1973 Texas Truck Plates NOS

In Virginia you can use plates that match the year of manufacture if a couple requirements are met. The plate number/letter combination must be available, and the vehicle must be at least 25 years old. Once registered, the plates are good as long as you own the car (one time fee). Another option is to register the plates with annual renewal, which allows daily unlimited use.

Re: 1973 Texas Truck Plates NOS

In texas you can run old plates if the vehicle is registered and insured as a antique. They have to see the plates and make copies to send in and keep on file. The registration last like 8 years and you dont have to get it inspected! You also get a tag that goes on the plate, so you dont have stickers on the windshield. I have some 1966, 1973, and 1974 texas plates.
