Need help

I have a motor that came out of a 1952 gmc casting # 3692708 i think it's a 235 not sure, the head casting #3835909 i know it's '50-'52 235 can anyone PLEASE HELP?

The casting numbers support your assumption. How about some pictures?

GMC's didn't run 235's. They ran 216's, 228's and some 270's.

Canadian built GMC trucks did have Chevy motors in some years.

GMC motors are the 228, 248, 270 and 302. The original motor in a US built '52 GMC pickup would be a 228.

But that motor is a Chevy.

The lifter cover does not go up on the head and its the two bolt valve cover. My guess is its a 235 from an early Powerglide car, but someone who knows Chevy motors better may come along with better information.

Canadian built trucks had Chevy motors in some years - I did not know that. I've always read/heard that no GMC's had chevy motors. But his serial number says his truck was built in Pontiac - how do you tell if it was a Canadian built truck?

The serial number plate will say Canada instead of Pontiac. All the US plates say Pontiac even if the truck was built in St Louis or Oakland.

Also the Canadian serial numbers are completely different. They almost make sense except with just the serial number you can't tell a '41 from a '51 because nothing in the serial identifies the decade. GM vehicles made in Canada all used the same coding scheme back then.

GM was not as consistent in the US where every brand seems to have had their own approach and GMC changed theirs every few years. The approach was clearly not designed by an engineer or an accountant or anyone else who understands information management so I've long suspected it was the attendant from the executive washroom.
