Re: Best frame for swapping a 51' GMC 3/4 ton
if you have a long bed you could use a S-10 extended cab frame,or use a short cab long bed frame and chop your bed 9''

will the ext cab be the right size, or will that need chopped/sectioned?

Your stock wheel base is 125.25 inches. The extended cab S-10 is 122.9 inches. To use that frame you have to change something.
Easiest answer might be to move your rear fenders forward until they are centered over the rear wheels. Otherwise its cut down the bed or lengthen the frame. |

Look here:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=384736 And if it's a 3/4 ton the bed isn't 8 foot, it's more like 7'4".

Don't forget a Dakota. Easier to deal with the radiator with the rack & pinion, its wider than the S10 track so no spacers needed.
I was going to do one until I got a hell of a deal on the S10 I'm using this time around. I've got another truck body so I'll keep an eye open for a Dakota. |

Oh yeah, and you can change the Dakota to 5 lug and use Ford/Dodge bolt pattern wheels on the front by simply using the old discs. You'll want to change to a Camaro/Ford 8.8"/9" rear end for width anyway so you can target a 5 on 4.5" pattern there, too.

My Dakota ain't going to be the donor! Although it's already bagged!!!!
I bet S10 beds are cheaper and easier for air ride.

If you did a S10 x-cab frame and bagged it you could do a four link or simular set up in the back and extend or place the arms back that extra 3 inches. That should work.

I'd probably be doing the ART or SD kit.
