Engine wont kick down into idle.?
I started my 454 again last night because i was moving it and the engine wont kick down and idle. Its a stock rochester quadrajet. Here is the thing, when i started it the first time to do break in, it would drop down and idle fine.
The ONLY thing i have added, is the hose from the tranny modulator to the back of the carb, i also added my brake booster line. I did install the throttle linkage also but there is plenty of play so i know its not holding it open. Also, when the truck is running the brake pedal is as hard as a rock. I dont know if i have the valve in that line from the booster upside down or would that even cause a high idle. Im at work now and cant look at the truck till tonight but im just trying to get some ideas. I was going to disconnect the booster and plug that hose to see if that helped or did anything. Any thoughts? Need any more information from me, just let me know. I just dont get why it would idle fine before and not now. My thoughts are the booster... Heres where it was idling fine. Also, after watching the video, the ONLY thing i have added since then is the booster line.

Re: Engine wont kick down into idle.?
If you had nothing capping that booster line before you had a huge vacuum leak. Just adding that line would fix that leak and completely change the idle.

found the problem. Actually an old timer at my other shop found it. Basically born and raised on carburetors. He literally popped my hood, reached in and touched something and it worked. What was happening was the kickdown lever or choke something or other was sticking.. It wasnt lubed enough when it was rebuilt.. man, what a relief. I should have this thing on the street in a few days. puttin the exhaust on today. WOOT.
