Correct me if I am wrong but did the 73-87 squarebody truck always have a very "FLIMSY" roof on them. What have you guys done to fix this and get it straight and ready for paint???

Re: roof panel

I never realized how thin they were until I did the restore on mine, I don't like it either. The "fix", as it were, is easy, BUT, you have to be carefull or you'll screw it up and have to heat the roof to melt the filler and thats dangerous. Get some "great stuff" at home depot or lowes. Remove the sun visors and the dome light. Use a piece of mechanics wire as a snake and push through to the dome hole from the visor hole and from visor to visor holes (3) pieces of wire. Next, cut 3 pieces of vac hose or the tubing used for an ice maker, as long as the wire and snake all 3 into position. Next hook 1 hose to the great stuff wand and fill the hose. While you retract the hose with the snake, spray the filler. If you can, get the hose\snake to wave from side to side so it zig-zags as you pull it out. Do this with all 3 hoses. It won't do the entire space, but it does stiffen the outer panel a bit. I should have drilled some holes and filled the ridge from inside the cab, but I didn't. Good luck. Like I said, be careful with the amount of filler you use or it will "bow" the roof do to expansion of the filler. Also, it's tight up there and hose\snake could get stuck. Jim

Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.

Re: roof panel

If you use the expanding foam as James mentioned, get the door/window foam...it isn't as strong and shouldn't cause any excessive bowing or anything.

Bob, the roofs on these trucks are double wall, and pretty thin gauge...I would be extremely surprised if you could walk on it without causing damage. I can push my roof down with my hand.
