1964 C-10 Engine

A couple of question's! 1964 C-10 6cyl 3 speed

When changing out 3 speed manual to automatic 400 what do you have to do for cross member mount's?


Will I have to do anything for the cooling system, really do not want to use electric fan's, want to keep it stock look.

You need a new automatic cross member out of something up to 1974. You will need to add a transcooler but the cooling system for the engine should go unchanged. Just did a th350 auto in my 64. Again, just get the xmember and you should be good.

Thank you for the info, I am using a Bcool radiator with tran's line's.
You stated anything 74 back , is that truck only or car as well?

Truck only. Though you should prolly shoot for 67-74. After 74 they changed the design to an 'L' shaped xmember to accommodate the cats put on the newer trucks. They still work, in fact that is what I have, but they aren't quite as nice as the "double hump" xmembers. You can also get an aftermarket one from a couple different manufactures. But with shipping and the purchase price it was way more than the 25 bucks I paid for mine.

With an inline, you should look for a Turbo 350.

Or you could just buy a new one. http://www.truckandcarshop.com/trucks60_72/t60_097.html $69... Try the bone yard first. I got one out of a 65 or 67 I think and it was rivited in. Good thing for battery powered drills. I think I paid $20 for it.

I agree......there's no reason to run a TH400 behing a stock 6 cyl. The TH400 takes more hp to turn, plus it has a higher 1st gear ratio than a TH350.
