going rate for exhaust???
I stopped by a muffler shop yday to get a price on my exhaust. Heres what I told the guy I wanted. I will need to get it run from the headers back. I want 2 1/2" pipes with 2 flowmasters. I want to run the pipes out at an angle in front of the back axle, or possibly just turning it down at the flowmasters. The guy quoted me $450-$500. Is this high or am i just "old school." I havent had an exhaust system installed on anything in years. Would I be better off to buy a system from lmc or someone and do it myself and add the flowmasters?

Re: going rate for exhaust???
If I remember correctly mine was 375.00 including dynomax mufflers, piping, installed from the collectors all the way to the back.

Re: going rate for exhaust???
And I am guessing going Stainless Steel would raise that price dramically.

Re: going rate for exhaust???
If you want something that is not overly intrusive, it would be my suggestion to have full tail pipes with the mufflers tucked up in front of the differential where they were originally. It has been my experience that mufflers right under the floor boards and short pipes, especially those turned down in front of the axle have had a tendency to be too loud and annoying for more than shorter rides. If you want to do it yourself, you can buy mandrel bent 2 1/4" dual systems from Hooker via Summit for $200 shipped. Thrush oval turbo mufflers will go another $50 -60 total. Nice sound, and with rear stock exits, the sound won't kill you in the interior. Fitment was good - but I bought the manifolds back system. $450-500 for that short of system with minimal bends seems very high to me even factoring the cost of those mufflers.

Re: going rate for exhaust???
2 1/2 dumped in front of axle w/ Flow's ran me 300. I personally don't think it was annoying, and have taken it on many long trips and she was my daily driver for a year or so. You actually couldn't even hear it at 70 mph.

Re: going rate for exhaust???
Mine was over $400 with generic turbo, H pipe, and all the way to the back with aluminized 2-1/2". Not too loud, not too quiet. The exit is to the side of the bumper with slash cut ends. I would have it done a little differently now, but it's OK.

I paid $250 for 2 1/2" exiting before the rear wheels. I already had the mufflers.

Re: going rate for exhaust???
buy your flows from a speed shop or online. they wanted 150$ a peice for the FLOW 40's ..... went to speed shop and got them for 70$ a piece.... 300$ in pipe work 2 1/2 all the way back turned out behind rear wheel... (only cause i had to do emissions at the time in phoenix so pipes have to be accessible)

Re: going rate for exhaust???
If all your shops in your area are that high and you have the ability to do it, go with the LMC kit, I used it and it comes complete.
Shops in AZ where I was at (only 2 shops there) wanted 400 to 600 and it was ridiculous, I took the truck to TN cause we were moving and got it done from the manifolds back for 280+ tax. Shops here in the "NAM" are advertising 200+ so I guess its about location. Smitty
