Disc brake question for straight axle
I plan on staying old school, for a number of reasons.
One being price. that being said I would like as little drama as possible while driving my panel(when that day comes  )so good brakes are important.I'll likely install a Ford 9" in the rear from a 69 F100 so I think its reasonable to install front disc set up that has the Ford bolt pattern. I already have the 9" as well as Ford pattern steelies. I am wondering about adapting a Ford disc set up(wrecking yard?) on my 49 GMC straight axle. Any thoughts ?

I run the set from Buffalo ent. 73-87 4wd rotors 53-59 hubs and 73 up fullsize chevy car calipers and they stop well. Jay

I've got disk on the straight axle on my Suburban. I bought a bracket kit that uses 70s mid-size GM calipers and rotors and have been very happy with it.
It might be less trouble to re-drill the axles to a 5 x 4.75 Chevy pattern and run a kit like the one I used than to engineer your own conversion to take Ford wheels. Another though would be to look for dual pattern wheels. Then you could run Ford in the rear and Chevy in the front. Really you only need one dual-pattern wheel, the one that mounts your spare... |

Nope. This guy is the original guy. He makes real nice stuff. Just think of it as a trip up here to visit with oldiron and I; or just to see our trucks.
