#14 my wifes '64 parts truck

my wife has been saving over the winter to buy this parts truck for her 63.
this one has the same 230/250 6 as hers, but it runs alot better.
It also has a completely rust free front clip!!
Of coursee this just means more work for me now I don't have an excuse for not starting on her truck.
here are some pics:

what can you guys tell me about this rear end?
it is different than any other 60-66 I have, still a 1/2 ton rear though...

this one also has an odd assortment of features.. it has the little 6 and a tiny radiator, but came with a factory sway bar up front. It has factory cab lights and all 4 of the original 15 inch split rims and hubcaps.
it came with the factory (dealer?) emergency flashers, and tow hooks up front.

Re: #14 my wifes '64 parts truck

Looks like an earlier model rear but I could be wrong. Are you sure it has a 230 and not a 194 in it. Usually the smaller radiator is the tale. Also. You guys are using nice trucks for parts trucks.

Re: #14 my wifes '64 parts truck

I have no idea what size the motor is, I was just guessing ...
this one has the tiny rad, and an oil bath air cleaner, the 63 has the same rad, a 2(!?) blade fan, and a paper element aircleaner.
the dipstick on the 2 motors are a little different, the 63 goed straight down in in the center on the side of the block, and the 64 is a little to the rear and at a little bit of an angle...

Re: #14 my wifes '64 parts truck

the 1964 and 1965 230 6 cylinder trucks had the small radiator on them from the factory,it is correct for your truck.here is the rule all 1964-65 6 cylinder trucks came with small radiator as standard equipment.all 1966 6 cylinder trucks came with the thick radiator like the v8's.i'm not sure about the rear axle in your truck.i have a friend who bought a 66 parts truck half ton c10 and it has the same rear end in it.all of the 64-66 trucks i have owned never had this style rear end so maybe someone else can answer this.you don't know how lucky you are finding and getting these good solid trucks up there in montana.by the way i had a light green 65 long bed just like yours that i sold last year.i like all of your trucks(clean and solid).that truck looks too good to part out.

Re: #14 my wifes '64 parts truck

the best thing this 64 has going for it is the lack of rust... they made up for it with dents though
that rad explanation makes sense then, because I have a 66 with the 230/250 that has a big rad, which had confused me...
when I do the change out I might put her motor back in it , and the 63 clip back on it, and keep it together, other than the big dent in the roof this cab is just mint!

Re: #14 my wifes '64 parts truck

That rear end is typical under a '60-'62 Chevy. It should have a removeable rear cover in addition to the drop out 3rd member. It's kind of a smaller version of the HO52/72 found in the C20 and C30's.

Jon: I see it has the dealer option creases in the drivers door. Dealers knew that before long after purchase, our winds would do it anyway. Looks normal.

Re: #14 my wifes '64 parts truck

I've never seen a tow hook on on our style trucks. If it is anything like the 4X4 67-72 (I think) tow hooks they fetch a pretty penny around $500. When Shannon and I went to the Moultrie Swap meet a guy had a pair for $500 or $750. Shannon said they are like gold. Our style tow hook may not fetch that kind of money, but you never know.
