potential new purchase need advice.
I just came across these two trucks. Thinking about getting the long step as it seems to be the most solid. The Long wide is nice but has title issues and does not start.
Both are 3/4 ton both are I6 4 speed. Solid cabs Short step has rusty hood but rest is fine got on hands and knees and only a small area under LH rocker has rust on inside and RH kick panel on inside has a little rust. Windows roll up and down, doors seem to open and close w/out problem. So here is the question Which one? Title problem wide or no title problem step. The price for each is 1750? not sure if I should even get one but heck they are nice.

Go for the step - just for the uniqueness.

that step is sweet, but what kind of title problems? they can be sticky to work with at times. but the step is a great buy.

Re: potential new purchase need advice.
The wide has no title, the fathere purchased and never got. Dad is now sick and not able to fix or hunt seller down.
Step is in dads name and here i can get whats called a power of attorney and get the title from the state. (before the father passes away after you would have to wait till estate settled) So the step can be gotten the wide only a bonded title with a BOS.

Re: potential new purchase need advice.
unless the title problem is straightened out on thier end before you purchase, they are just parts trucks, and I would only offer $500 for the pair...maybe $750 tops.

Re: potential new purchase need advice.
As I remove the Rose Colored Glasses from my face, I see the light. Where they would be nice, I already have two or three 67-72 projects on my hands. Something I could drive already would be good but with what I want in the way of disc brakes and dual master cylinder and a higher gear rear end. I dont think this is going to be parking in my driveway any time soon.
Thanks for the information and advice. I say all this, but unless he comes down to the levels you mention Im doing nothing but passing. Thomas

Re: potential new purchase need advice.
I ended up buying a really nice Master Tow Dolly from this guy and picked it up last night.
When I got there they had just gotten the black wide bed running. Its a really nice truck Camper Special, the SPID says it has the 292 and the "no spin rear" They have title now and have decided to keep this truck. So, while I am there they ask me if I want to see the step run. Sure!!! Why not. Bypass the fuel tank, they let it slip that the truck has not been driven in about three or four years only started from time to time. Thus the bad gas and bypass of the tank. They get it to start and it is running rough. puffed out some smoke but not much on start up. Blamed it on all the carb cleaner they poured in and on it in the days before. After about two or three min of running the thing started smoking like crazy. both black and white smoke pouring from the engine bay and the tail pipe. Oil was coming out of the exhaust manifold to exhaust junction, coming out of the valve cover too. Nothing sounded like a catastrophic failure, but it did not seem good? Stuck Valve, letting oil in? The guy then looks at me and says. "It runs... still interested?" WTF!!! ( looking back I think he was joking) I try to hide the look on my face and said, only with a substantial reduction in price and a title. So he comes down 200 bucks. Not enough if I have to replace an engine I say to him. He said he would get back to me. Unlike when the cloud of smoke covered us and I could not see, I wont be holding my breath.

Re: potential new purchase need advice.
Good decision! Broken rings, cracked piston or block - who knows. Sounds just like the episode of Leave it to Beaver where Wally took his dad to look at a Chevy fastback.

Re: potential new purchase need advice.
He asked me to make an offer, I looked at what it would cost to put in a new engine and othere misc stuff like gas tank and other things and made an offer. I will be shocked if he takes it.
One question will a 250 drop right in? I have a good one that I picked up a few years ago from an 70 Camaro.
