RUST: Windshield rim lower weep holes
Hi,
I'm doing a frame off on my 80 K20 4X4 and am working on rust around the bottom of the windshield just below the rubber gasket. Most of the rust is on both sides close to the 1/4" drain holes. I have sectioned those areas out and am welding in new sheetmetal pieces (pain in the rear!) Question: Should I drill new weep holes on both sides or just leave it solid? Thanks, Dyno

Re: RUST: Windshield rim lower weep holes
Dyno, when I did mine I had rust along the entire lower flange. What I did was grind the flange inside and out, then rebuilt it with fiberglass. It turned out quite nicely and the added thickness of the fiberglass makes for a better seal. I did drill out the existing drain holes so in event there is some leakage it drains outside the cab and not inside. Hope this helps, jim

Re: RUST: Windshield rim lower weep holes
Can you clarify that? Sounds like a contradiction. If you drilled out the drain holes, water goes into the cowl and flows out down by the fenders. My question is do I need those holes?

Re: RUST: Windshield rim lower weep holes
yes. they are to keep water from staying under there and causing rust. its rusty now but would have been way worse without them. or they could have been plugged. on mine they accidentally got sealer in one of the holes on mine and there was rust, while the other one looked brand new still.

Re: RUST: Windshield rim lower weep holes
I agree with Kenny and would drill them out. Jim
