Painted White Letters on BFGs

So I've been looking for 20" BFGs with white letters, and looks like they aren't made. I was thinking of running the g-force's with the traditional tread and then painting the letters white with the duplicolor pen from summit. I was wondering if anyone has ever done anything like this or if there's a better way? Hell, maybe I suck at searching for tires and 20" white letter tires are actually out there, but I'm being picky and only want BFGs since that's what's always been on the truck.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I thought it was the best place since there really isn't a wheel/tire forum.

Re: Painted White Letters on BFGs

I don't have many of them. The truck was my uncle's when I was young (I'm 30 now), and then my dad bought it when I was 8 and it's been in our family ever since. When he passed, the truck went to my older brother who started the project many years ago. He has never been able to finish it, so in the next couple of months, I'll be taking it over, and I've been trying plan my attack for a while now.

The first pic is the only one I have with it mostly together...but as you can see, it's just still has the cab & bed on. The rest is basically how it sits right now. The only thing that's different is that the cab and fenders have been painted hot rod black. I'm trying to keep within about 5-7 grand as a budget, but the biggest problem I'm running into is that I want to fully re-do the suspension which eats up a lot of the budget.

I have never used this product myself but Dupli color makes a product called Hot tires that might give you the result you are looking for:

Don't laugh everyone, but it's a Turner Enterprise set up...the bags are too far forward on the trailing arms, and get's WAY too much lift. I asked you how you did your step notch as I don't trust the one on it now and need to re-do it...I'm a little nervous about chopping it off, but I'm pretty sure I know how to brace it now before I cut so the frame won't move.

Thanks south! I was hoping that someone on the board has used these to see how they are before potentially ruining an expensive tire.

Sure was...if you could actually reach them, but things have evolved so much now. The control arms are from Turner and I don't plan on changing them, but I am going to purchase a porterbuilt dm because I'm leary on the rack & pinion mount that's currently on it. I'm between the pb rear set up or kp 6 link for rear though. The truck is a swb too.

Not much to see on the rear suspension. Basically x-mbr over the trailiing arms a little over a foot off the front of them for the bags to mount on plus I think about a 1 1/2" block. I think you can see it well enough from the pic below (that's my s10 daily driver and me in the backgroun..just a little bow legged) I don't remember where the notch was from, but it doesn't have the contour of the c10 frame...just a straight pre-formed notch that was welded into the frame...so it looks a little off. It may be just fine as is...but I'll try to get some close ups for opinions when it comes time.

The wheels play a big part in this truck since it's flat back right now (I'd love to have it white/gold stock though...maybe one day, but paint isn't in the budget), so I was thinking 20" corvette rally from wheel vintiques with white letter BFGs would be a decent fit. The dodge ram steelies are also really appealing for both the cost and the look, but I'm not sure if they can be re-drilled for a 6 lug chevy pattern as I don't want to machine the rotors/drums for a dodge pattern.

Re: Painted White Letters on BFGs

You have one of the ultra rare Turner Enterprises suspension that actually got completed. There were several that got started, but not too many got enough parts to complete them.

You are correct that it was uncharted waters and the shiz in its era.

Re: Painted White Letters on BFGs

Dont do it. I did it to the bridgestones on my last toyota and when I would put tire shine on them the letters would turn brown and you couldnt get it off. The only way to fix it was to repaint the letters everytime. This was with the dupicolor pen too.

thanks bluex, that's the type of insight I was looking for. Does any one know of another possibility or would this happen with any type of painted tire?

Quite a few years ago I scuffed up a white letter tire on a curb or something and I got a tire crayon from the store where I got the tires. It worked really well and didnt turn colors. I dont know how it would work trying to make white letters though.

If I do it again I'm going to try a normal .98 white paint maker or a testors model marker. They might come off easier if they turn from the tire shine. The duplicolor markers look really good if you dont mind redoing it everytime you put tire shine on them. The bridgestones I had were a letter outline so it took like 45 min per tire to fix it. Nothing I tried would take it back off either after it turned brown so I was commited then...

Re: Painted White Letters on BFGs

1loC10...those are the exact tires I was looking into...thanks for the pic as it looks great. Is it yours or someone you know? If so, how is the white holding up?

bluex...that really sucks...but considering the truck won't be driven much, I just might be willing to risk it.

A while back, I found this white wall paint from Australia I think...anyone heard of this?
