Exhaust on lowered 65 short fleet. Trans crossmember problems...

Down to running exhaust on the truck. I have lowered it enough that the exhaust tubing is going to have to run above the transmission crossmember. Anyone have any pics of this or use that setup on their truck...? Any other ways of routing the exhaust tubing...? I am shooting for just running the pipes straight back and dumping them at the rear. I am using headers and they hang just below the frame rails. I am lowered with cut springs in front (about 4.5" and jeep springs with 2" blocks in the rear).

Are they a full-length type header with the collectors positioned along side the transmission? I ask because it kind of limits your options.

i wish i had a photo of stuff we have done in the past but basicly remove your crossmember. run your exhaust se what kind of space to work with chop out/ cut down the areas where you cannont fit the crosmember and custom build it around your exhaust..

its done with driveshafts all the time around here.. sometimes you can get 4" pipe or bigger the width of the crossmember and weldit in.

i cant write out my thoughts today.

Yes. I did this and routed it thru the driveshaft loop x-member. It's common on these and 67-72's. I used a shorty header so I did not have to offset over the trans mount.

Gotcha...I would probably look into cutting a hole through the trailing arm crossmember on each side to pass the tubing through. You may have to go the route of welding in a larger-diameter tube as d10s69c10 mentioned. This is why I went with a shorty header...I had to route my 3-inch tubing to the outside of the frame.

Re: Exhaust on lowered 65 short fleet. Trans crossmember problems...

I have block hugger headers on my 65 and I plan on running behind the front tire and turning and mounting the mufflers on the outside of frame and then turning out before the rear tires. I've run my exhaust through the frame on another truck and liked it but there was alot of heat around the trans area so I'm moving it elsewhere.
