Ok, I'm new to the 4x4 scene. I just got a 82 K10 with a 454. I currently have BFGoodrich Mud terrains on it. The sidewalls are pretty shot and the tread is really aggressive. Nice and noisy going down the road. I want to replace them with somthing not so aggressive, but I want a good all around off road/on highway street tire that won't wear out in 20K miles. What would you all suggest to go with and what to stay away from. The new Goodyear Duratrac caught my eye but they look kinda extreme as well. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

Ive had bf all terain ko's and bridgetone dueler revo's....both are a great tire.

I'm NOT Impressed with my Mastercraft Courser MT's at all. They'll dig, and dig and won't propel you forward. They don't have any tread on the sidewall. I think that's part of it.

BFG Mud Terrians are prelty good. A friend of mine has them and I havn't had to pull him out yet..

I dont know how aggressive youre looking for. I have Firestone Destination A/T on my 03 2500HD. They have about 50k on them now, and probably have another 10k. They are silent on the road, and are great in the soft sand beaches where I am. Dont have a whole lot of mud experience with them though... For mostly road driving, with some occasional offroading, I absolutely reccommend them. Pretty cheap too... 33x12.50s are only $140 from tire rack.

I would stay away from anything interco. Procomp at's are good, toyo open countries, procomp extreme at's are all good, and said too last a long time.

I think Hankook Dynapro MT's would work great for what you want. Even though they are an "MT", they are quieter than most and they ride great. Mine have about 15K on them and still look nearly new.

Sounds like a recipe for BFG All Terrains. I have no complaints about them on my K20, and nearly everything I read or hear puts them at or near the top-o-the-heap.

BFG changed the design of their mud terrains. The new BFG KM2's are great tires (better than the older MT/TA km's). I run them on my Jeep and DD/wheel the hell out of it. They wear great and are pretty quiet on the road. I suggest running them. Also check out the Cooper STT's and the new Goodyear MT/R's with kevlar. I have heard nothing but good things about them.

I have had the bfg ko's mud terrians and now i am on a set of good year wrangler dura tracs and they blow bfgs out of the water . they are not as bad with road nosie i think my k/o's made the same amount . we had some ugly weather here in maryland the last few weeks and those tires do very well i would suggest them to any one who doesnt want a ugly mud tire .

i work in a good year tire shop so i get to see what all is coming out . have heard alot of problems with the silent armour goodyears alot of traction issuses with people

Goodyear Wrangler MTR's or BFG AT's.

Both are good all around tires in my opinion.

I am running Dick Cepek Fun Country II's and I really like them, I think they call it a hybrid tire, it's tread design is between an AT and MT tire. I've had it in sand, mild rock and mud and it does very well for my needs (of course having front/rear lockers helps in some situations)

I have BFG AT KO on my truck not a bad tire, did pick up rocks pretty good from the get go. I also have Open Country At on the Suburban and really like those for a all around tire.

I have built three Jeeps and run countless tires over the years, If you want a pretty quiet mostly highway/ good mileage and decent off road performance go BFG A/T or General Grabber A/t, both tires are very similar... as for price I have found you get what you pay for... period.

I never liked the Goodyears, I think you pay for mostly name with them.

My favorite off road tire is the Mickey Thimpson MTZ.... it is pretty aggresive and loud but will last a long time and has excellant road manners, oh and looks pretty cool.

When you choose your tire keep in mind the more aggresive you go the worse gas mileage you will get as well... you may not care but going from an A/T to a M/T may cost you 1-2 MPG as well.

I would also second the Dick Cepek fun countries as a good not great all round tire (pardon the pun). I am not going to lie to you, tires are just about my favorite part of the pakage.

The only off road tires I have ever used for years and years are BFG MT's. I'm not too keen on the newer design MT's... so I still stay with the older tread design.

They have been the best compromise for street and offroad performance for me. I don't think they make near as much road noise as other lugged mud/traction tires.
