Re: 47-53 any differences ??
Read through that information carefully and compare it to what you know of these trucks. Under the heading of '55 1st it says the battery is now located under the floor. That was true of the '47 AD trucks too.
It makes no mention of the change from Huck to Bendix brakes. Its a nice listing but is not complete and is in some cases misleading.

It's a personal problem but not one I've sought therapy for yet. If I live another 50 years I might try to deal with it.

Re: 47-53 any differences ??
And there is no mention of the change in the cab mounting systems. The change to the '54 doesn't mention the new grill, fenders, vent, dash, roof, tailgate, etc.
Can someone enlighten me on the comment for '49 that the two piece windshields were now stationary? Did they ever move?! My '47/8 cab doesn't have glass but is certainly doesn't have hinges! |

Re: 47-53 any differences ??
And their shortbed/longbed? What about 3/4 vs 1 ton? I WILL own a 1 ton with the 9' bed someday...

Jim Carter catalogs have a nice write up too. Stovebolts.com has a ton of info in the tech and how to buy sections.

I either own today or have owned in the past an example of each year of Advance Design '47 through '55 truck and have never seen one with a hinged windshield. Do you have a picture of one?

Even those ugly splitters need a home but the prettiest is the '54/55S1 but you already knew I'd say that!!! There is a splitter tonner in Ann Arbor but she's a basket case. Even the spare tire holder is rusted through!! She'd be yard art and actually has been for the folks that have her for almost a year. She spent 15 years inside a barn but I think the 35 before that were in a salt solution. |

Re: 47-53 any differences ??
3800 badge on the US ones, 9 foot stepside bed, different front bumper brackets than 1/2 and 3/4 tons, and 137" wheelbase. Less easy to see would be 5.13 gears in the rear axle and bigger brakes than the 3/4 ton. Also, mine had a hand operated e-brake by the shifter.

Re: 47-53 any differences ??
The hand brake was something on some of the earlier trucks, I think, but everything else I agree with. Then again, the other 3 with that handle I'm thinking of were 1 tons as well... 49 mph SCREAMING with those 5.13 gears. Mine was a 3800 with a dump bed (see the Stovebolt.com 1953 gallery) and there is a 3800 pickup in Ann Arbor but she's still hung on $600 for it. The only thing valuable is the air cleaner and maybe the windshield washer system. The rest is pretty much rotted.
