its kinda hard to make a decision like that without knowing whats already been done to the truck or what it might actually need. i mean you could do lots of little things with 600 bucks that would make it just all around nicer to drive for example if you dont have a sway bar add one things like that

What do you want? Do you like to go fast, listen to music, or scrape the ground? Unfortunately, in the grand scheme of things, $600 may not get you a whole heck of a lot in any of these categories

I think all of those are good choices. Or you could send me the cash! Seriously, though, t just depends on what you want to do w/your truck. Do you love to crank tunes, beat ricers, look good, etc? Which would you RATHER do? Think about it and I'm sure you can come up w/the answer!

LOL, guess we were typing at the same time, XXL! It just took me a little longer to decide what to say. And your right, $600 won't get you far.....

Thats the deal XXL and Riveted1 I like to do all 3, scrape, listen to music, and go fast(maybe not such a good idea).
I probably wont get a bigger motor because I'm still a student in highschool and thats worse gas than I get right now, plus I would probably have a lead foot with it compared to my small v8 thats in it right now.
If I get a soundsystem, I already have a good cd player and 2 6x9's so that saves a few hundred.
I really dont know about a drop kit because I like to go fishing and it can get rough sometimes.
I dunno I could just go get an automatic transmission because I hate having to shift. Plus my shifter is a piece of junk so that doesn't help.

I know I could get a pretty good sound system with that 600, I looked a turbo 350's a while back and they were between 6 and 7 hundred I know my dad would help me out a bit if it were over 600 if I got a new tranny. I just haven't really looked at the price of drop kits.

Sounds like you should go w/the tranny, since you don't like to shift. You could easily upgrade that sound system, but then you've got to worry about thieves a little more. And like you said, more power=more gas $$ and if you like to go fishin', forget the drop kit. I think you've made up your own mind!

$600-$700 for a TH350? I paid $285 for a rebuilt TH350 with a 6 month warranty. You should be able to pick up a good one for less than $200 at a salvage yard. Add another $100 for the right steering colum, shift linkage, crossmember, and cooler lines, and you have a $300 upgrade. That leaves you another $150 for a decent set of subwoofers, and $150 for a decent amp to power them.

I vote for the TH350, if that's where you want to end up at. But, yeah, swapping in a good used one shouldn't cost 600.00! I assume you have a 3 on the tree now??! Maybe rebuilding it to function properly would improve your opinion of shifting, or better still, convert to a floor shifter. Nothing like a floor shift to make one feel like a Nascar pilot! What's a floor shifter cost guy's...150.00? Leave you some cash for other sound investments. ( pun intended )

if i were you i would call around to rebuild shops in your area i can get a rebuild done all day long for 300 bucks but thats providing them with a core. and from what you are saying i would get the auto tranny and find a good column out of a truck im sure you can get one for a decent price many people on here are trying to get rid of regular columns to put in a tilt

Those were new turbo 350 tranmissions(I think, it may have been one from one of those 'tuner' or whatever companies, I looked at them like 6 months ago). My truck is already on the floor shift. The p/o just put like a crappy shifter in it like one of those 70 dollar ones. I think the truck was originally an automatic, but I dont know how to tell and it is not the original glove box.

well, over here in houston, you could get a completely rebuilt th350 with a shift kit for only $475 with a $100 core charge. that's not a bad price. if ya'll have a Competition Sales over there, just try them.

Oh ya go for for bigger motor, because no matter what your truck looks like its gotta be fast, thats the whole thing to build em is to be faster and sound faster. Just go buy a blown 572 and put in it, and put the $600.00 down on the motor and pay on $20,000 for rest of your life , you would be cool, LOL.

Just for the price comparision. You cant touch a rebuilt around here for less than 450 and you have to provide a core or have yours rebuilt.

If you go to convert from a stick to an automatic you need to take into consideration all the other parts that are needed to complete the job.

While you may get the tranny for a good price you still need to factor in the costs such as a automatic steering column or floor shifter, tranny mount, crossmember, driveline, torque converter, cooling lines and a radiator or some other device that will accept the tranny cooling lines in order to keep your tranny cool.

Well, a billet flywheel, & a centerforce dual friction clutch set up "ate"$ 600 ......the richmond 6spd isnt payed off yet(my wallet will hurt for a while on that ). my vote is trans also, i like stick shifts......but they arent for everybody. if you are running mild, a 350 hydro would be the ticket....for the guys running hard, the 400 hydro will eat a little more power to run, but they are d@mn near bullet proof! I have one sitting on the floor , that came out of my Longhorn after 10 yrs of abuse, & still going. My oldest kid thinks he needs that 400 t in his ranger, but that sounds like a BFH on the floor pan to make it fit to me Yup , the ranger has a sb chev in it......the only way to go Good luck, crazyL

You will find the richmond trans in both Summit & Jegs website, & depending on what ratios you chose, they run $2900-3100. As far as adapting to a 4wd......I dont think so, but you might talk with richmond tech on that . crazyL
