Yep the 88-98 4wd rear axles are about 3 inches wider overall than a 2wd.
That's why they match up closely with the 4wd solid front axles.
Prior to 88 on trucks and 92 on Subs,Blazers and Crewcabs (1ton) the rear axles were all the same width if I recall correctly.
