Re: doing good in welding moving sometime to armor plating

welding is a great skill to have and can help you into a great career. We have a helmets to hardhats program that is designed to do this very thing. It helps soldiers transition into civilian live and gets them into a great career. A very good friend of mine took advantage of this. He came out of the Marines and we served our apprenticeship in the same class

Great job on the welding, but you DO need to learn how to swim.
Comes in very handy in life.

FYI, the machine shop that I used to be associated used tigged aluminum 99% of the time. If they were welding steel, good chance it was a G job.

Aluminum is tough to TIG, but well worth learning. Personally, I struggle with aluminum TIG also, but then I am an old fart and can't see like I used too.

Re: doing good in welding moving sometime to armor plating

Knowing how to weld with anything put in front of you will pay off. Lots of shops dont want specialty people. They want a guy who can do whatever needs done. Welders are always in demand. Its a skill that goes with so many different jobs its crazy but having the welding certs etc will get your foot in the door.

I know and my welds have to be top notch I don't want a ****ty weld with no penetration I don't want to live knowing that my welds didn't hold and killed the guys in tanks that I had fixed that would mess me up. I'm doing my job the best to my abilities and I will ask my unit can I goto a college to get more training or see if I can talk them into nadc or wyotech
