I paid 3800 for mine carb to pan shipped from awsome engines in delaware. Somebody was paying but never finished paying. All it had was dyno time on it. If you shop around there is some very good deals out there. Especially with a down economy..

What's interesting is when I wanted to sell my forged 347ci LS1, I wasn't getting any traction at $4,250.. I was offering it as a complete long block with the ported heads and cam, ready to run minus covers and an intake. I was going to throw in the tune as well. At the time the motor made 428rwhp NA with an LS6 intake through a 4L80E with a 12 bolt.

My point to this, the economy flat out sucks for people selling, but if you look for something used, you could find a killer deal.

I have been seeing a lot of Dart/Merlin BBC blocks for $15-2000. Making me think of grabbing one for a 520-580ci build to swap out.

dart is better of the two and you can get one machined and ready to put together in the low 2's

I would prefer Dart but if Merlin III are $1500 and under ill take one. I have seen Merlin's cheaper then Darts. RaceJunk.com has a few Merlins for under $1600 new. Figure a Scat 9000 for under $400 with some H beams and forged will handle 700+hp. then use my Dart cylinder heads and get a roller. Man im dreaming, maby in a year or so. I would like to build a 4in stroke at about 520CI or just get a 555+ with 4.25in. I am liking the idea of a big bore small stroke. High rpms

I bought my Bowtie block for about 600 but I have a ton in machine work. If I had it to do over I would call Sunset Racecraft and order a Dart ready to go.

On the bore and stroke thing I would rather have a 496 than a 502. You can do the 496 in a stock block.

Its cheaper to spend more on the dart block. Your machinist will thank you. The world blocks always require a good bit more work to get them right

you can buy a used 815" pro-stock headed BBC now for $20K or less. a motor that cost $60K+ new and drops 2/3 to 3/4 its value like that.

i've seen street 540' BBC with conventional heads selling for under $5000 turn key. it is unreal the deals out there right now

Well this mighty mouse was planned on a budget but as a torque tempered daily driver running 9.5 to 1 on pump gas that is going to be recieving some secret boost. Upped the tranny's ablilty and put together a budget modified a 14 bolt FF rearend w/ Posi and custom 8 lug rear disc brake system.

So the mouse will be growing some bigger teeth soon ...

If you want good customer service, a ton of knowledge, and reasonable prices I would talk to Mike Lewis (Mike@Lewisracingengines.com). He can build you anything you need. Or Mark Jones (VortecPro@Gmail.com), who is also very good. Either one of them can get you high HP for a very good cost.

I did see a cut away of the newer DART block ... showing the improved oil pathways to the main bearings and "siamesed cylinder walls" Very Impressive.

You can get a rebuilt longblock 454 for under $2,000. Swap out the heads (anything closed chambered less you want to swap out pistons or milled patriot performance, NOT PRO-COMP!), and cam, and you can get an easy 450 hp for as cheap as you can get. $1,800 for motor, $1,400 heads, $200 cam.
