rear end help.

I have a Ten Bolt under my 77 2wd LWB. does anyone know if the the truck 10 bolts were 8.5 or 8.2in? I am wanting to order a limited slip but cause figure out wich it is and Im not home to tear it apart and measure. Im assuming it would be an 8.5 cause i thought the cars had the 8.2.

THe back side of my rear end case is stamped GM81 if that helps at all. Thanks guys.

Re: rear end help.

If it's the original rearend, then it is an 8.5".

Re: rear end help.

Depends if it is original. If it is a 8.5" rearend out of a 1987 or prior it has 28 spline axles, 1988 and newer have 30 spline axles. I haven't actually heard of a 27 spline 10 bolt.

The more I think about it though, I believe your truck should have a 12 bolt rearend under it. I recently sold a '77 LWB and it had a 12 bolt under it, and the '76 Blazer I have also has a 12 bolt. I could certainly be wrong about the application, but it is a consideration.

Re: rear end help.

yea someone before my must have swapped it out for some reason. It is supose to have the 12 bolt. Im assuming it is a 28 spline application. Think I might have a line on a parts truck with a 12 bolt tho so hopefully that come through. But if not looks like I am building the ten bolt.
