Ok I am about to get new exhaust put on, Most likely flowmasters or megnaflows mufflers, on 3" hedman headers

Ok where should i put the piped comming out:

infront of the tires?
behind the tires?
Straight out back?
tucked up in one of those places?
Dropped underneath tips down?

Please say why I should pich that, if ya can

I would run them on back, then angle them to each corner and then have them turned down, this way you don't see them other then the very tips pointed down. Or run them back, and once they clear the rearend, turn them down, completley hidden then.

If your truck is basically stock, behind the tires. If the truck has been customized then I agree with SAM72

You definately don't want to run it straight back if you have a sliding back window, if not, in my opinion it looks fairly cool having 2 straight pipes sticking out the back.

What do you want? From all I've read, shorter=louder, bigger pipe=deeper tones, fire coming out the tail pipe=very cool.

If you don't mind it a little louder (especially in the cab) dump it right in front of the tires and put some sweet tips on it. If you need room for a spare or hitch dump 'em out the back corners. If you run them out the back keep them wide apart. Mine came out too close together and look like a cross eyed monster.

No matter what way you decide to go, tuck those pipes up nice and close so you can't see them! Nothing looks worse or detracts attention from the rest of your truck more than pipes that hang down (mine included

Mine used to exit after the rear tires but now they exit at 45s right before the rear axles and i love it. With the 18" glass packs it really screams when you stop on it.

I CURRENTLY have the flowmasters, 3" pipes exiting in front of the rear tires. I am having it changed so that they exit at an angle at the rear edge of the quarters with only the tips showing. The current setup sounds good unless you are in the cab. I enjoy a good sounding exhaust but when you cannot here your stereo unless it is pushing 100db it gets old. Just my opinion though...

My pipes dump right before the rear axle. Headers and 40 series Flows and it sounds great. There is considerable sound in the cab, but I like it!! May make it hard to whisper sweet nothings in your girlfriends ear, though!

Only problem is that now I have to run pipes further back for emissions testing.

So, that may be something to think about......

I think I'm the only one that has straight pipes right out the back.

They used to turn out right behind the rear tires, but when I blew my mufflers up with bad points about a year ago I decided to run 2 1/2" exhaust running twin turbos, and run them straight. I have a heavy duty bumper, so they end flush right underneath. Recently I put on angled cut chrome exhaust tips. It looks pretty cool except for the side.

Since I have a LWB truck you can see the straight pipes from the rear tires all the way back past the bumper. If the truck were lowered it would look way better from the side.

Above, and from the rear it looks cool as hell.

I'm not 100% on this but i thought pre 73 vehicle's were emissions exempt!, you might want to check that out. Anyone know any better?

I prefer pipes all the way back, side or straight per your preference. I've got Flows American Thunder on my 95 K1500, and it's noisy in the cab. I like deep rumble exhaust, but I prefer the bark to be in the back, not in the cab.
