Which direction should I go for adding pony's?
I have a project that I am working on. I have a 1997 7.4 vortec that I would like to add some horsepower to. What are my least expensive options? So far I'm thinking of:
High Performance CAM Headers(street legal) with dual exhaust Water injection system K&N Air Filter Can I "chip" it? |

Those sound OK, I'm not sure why you need water injection though.

Skip the water injection and add nitrous oxide. A buddy of mine had a vortec 454 in his el camino, and it ran pretty good for a street car that was driven everywhere. He ended up putting in a decent roller cam and nice intake/carb with a 150 shot. I don't think he ever took it to the track when it was a 454(it's now a 496), but it was a fast ride.

The '96 and up PCM's don't have 'chips' as the '95 and earlier PCM's did. You'll have to send it to someone that can 'tune' it for you unless there is someone local to you that can do that. You'll want to have your upgrades figured out first of course.

I believe you can get a Wait4Me tune for the vortec motors.
