Factory accellerator pedal location?
This is on a 59 Fleetside with the 4 speed and the stock 235.
The transmission cover that came on the truck has been hacked to pieces and the pedal was falling apart, so I ordered a replacement pedal and transmission cover. The original transmission cover had the pedal screwed into the left side, the new cover has all the holes for mounting it to the floor, but no holes setup for the factory style pedal. I looked in the factory assembly manual and couldn't find any drawing that described exactly where the pedal was supposed to go. I guess I could put new holes in the transmission cover where the old one had them, but the holes looked like they had been drilled out by the farmer that previously owned it rather than the factory so I'm not sure if that's where it's really supposed to mount. FYI the "original pedal" I'm referring to is the hinge/pedal assembly that is covered in one piece of rubber seen here: http://www.classicparts.com/1958-59-...ctinfo/39-313/ Any thoughts on how I can go about getting this in the right spot? Any pictures of the factory setup? Thanks! Alden |

I don't know how this is going to come out. But anyway has you can see the pedal bracket is spot welded to the floor board not the tranny cover.

hmmm, I'll have to see if there is any sign of mine ever having that assembly. Thanks!

Re: Factory accellerator pedal location?
I'm having a hard time seeing how mine could be setup that same way. The pedal seems way too long to have a mount like that. Here's what mine looks like right now:
I found this picture on the HAMB that appears to be setup like mine so I'm wondering if the 59 model was modified But then his pedal looks to sit a lot higher up (i.e. the rod sticks further into the cab than mine does), is that adjustable? Last edited by alden; 04-28-2010 at 08:35 PM. |

Re: Factory accellerator pedal location?
Here is a picture of a 55 floor board i use as a jig to set up all my components. You can see the pedal rod hole, pedal stopper and the pedal hinge spot welded to the floor just above the tranny cover. That pedal hinge has been cut off because it was seized.

This one is out of my '59 stepside. Looks to be the same set up as yours.

Re: Factory accellerator pedal location?
Alden, fwiw my 59, originally 6 cylinder, had a pedal like yours. I took it out when I converted to a V8.

Re: Factory accellerator pedal location?
I used a stock truck v8 pedal pivot arm that mounts thru the indent in the side of the firewall recess. It may have come off of the 63 donor I used in 85 for the motor. I don't know what other alternatives will work with a stock 6. I know I have sold 74 truck assemblies that mount on the firewall and use a cable thru the firewall to the carb of v-8's which move horizontally. The six carb moves vertically so you would need to rig up a pivot or pulley to make it work.
