Re: Just aint right

I have not got on in awhile been busy working and wrenching on the rigs sorry for the late replys. I haven't been racing my truck lately and probaly wont for awhile, its just too damn heavy and slow haha but, I just picked up something Im going to use to beat up the mustangs and ricers around here. A 1968 Chevy II Nova, Its got a 350 crate motor backed by a th350 tranny, 12 bolt posi rearend and disc brakes up front. My plan is to put my 383 out of my truck in it (with a bigger carb) some sort of stall converter and 373 gears. Heres a few pics.

Re: Just aint right

Hey all. I haven't been on in awhile been working like a mad dog. Just wondering if you guys could give me some tips and or advice on what intake and dist you think would work better for my 383 set up? I have read alot of articles on engine builds and find that the performer intake is just not good for racing. I also been thinking about my dist its just a stock hei should I be running an msd box or?

Re: Just aint right

I would run an Msd box. I'll go back and read up on the motor some to pick an intake.

Re: Just aint right

I would go with an edelbrock RPM airgap and a msd distributor with 6aL box. I am assuming your going to drive this on the street also. If you dont plan on a lot of freeway driving I would also go 4.11 on the rear gears, do a mini tubb put a 275-60-15 on it about 28" depending on tire brand 8" wheel 5.5bs CalTracs split mono with a 2 drop and go huntin. here's my 72 with that set up

Re: Just aint right

*did not read whole thread but did not see anyone asking about Density Altitude*

One of the best mods you can do is run in good air, lower DA the better. And to tell if mods work you should calculate your runs with a DA of 0'. There are tons of calcs out there to do this for you. Its the only way to really tell if the mods worked. Lots of people do not even realize how the air can hurt/help ones ET/MPH.

I keep a log of each run, this tells me what is going on and I can tell if something helped or hurt!

Re: Just aint right

Either my post got deleted or did not go through but I'm thinking the rpm air gap would be the best since its very streetable. I don't plan on making this into a straight up drag car. I still want it to be reliable and be able to drive to work or vegas. What msd dist would you recomend?
