Return to square body, first time square body Blazer owner...
Well, I once again became a square body owner yesterday. I have always wanted a M1009 CUCV Blazer, and I bought one off governmentliquidation.com. It is an '84 and was a base truck in GA. I went down and looked at it last week, and it runs great. It has 46,000 miles and the body has no through rust and is very straight. It is complete except the side mirrors and tow rings for some reason. The only thing that I know needs immediate attention is that the rear window regulator is broken and won't roll the window up. A local wrecking yard here that I frequent has several '80 Blazers, so parts won't be an issue. I couldn't drive it, but it was said to be driven onto the lot. The batteries seemed a little weak when I first cranked it, but after it ran a while and charged them, it recranked fine. The brakes were up on it, and the transmission dropped into gear (D and R) with no hesitation. I got it for just a touch over $1500 with taxes and fees. The tan one beside it sold for about $300 less, but the body was a little rough and it had higher mileage. It ran great also though.
I have been looking at them for a couple of months, and the ones that are on lots and and owned by individuals are selling from $3000 - $5000 around the Atlanta area. The ones like mine are usually in the $3500 - $4000, and the rustier more dented up ones going as low as $2800. They are getting crazy money for them on ebay. The only real negative thing I can say about GV is that you have to file a End Use Certificate to prove US citizenship and to prove you are who you say you are. This means you have to wait until it is accepted to pick them up. They had some nice M1008's on the lot too, but I specifically wanted a Blazer. If you can catch some on auction at a base within driving distance from you, this is the way to go. Here's a few pics of it. My plans are to repaint it with NATO camo pattern, and put some bigger tires on it like the one below. I also have a Banks Sidewinder Turbo set-up that it will get. I am a big fan of the 6.2's and have one in my '67 C-30 as well. I have been running these for years, and logged thousands of miles on them. I found a source for the military CARC paint, and since this paint is thick and textured, bodywork will be a breeze since the body is nice on this one anyway. I can't wait to get it home!
