Proper elec hook up for radio
OK while I have the dash out, I want to fix the radio. It's an after market Pioneer Cd/radio. The PO wired the radio on a hot only circuit. I want to tie in on the ACC mode and have it work when the truck is running.
Thanks in advance for the help. |

Re: Proper elec hook up for radio
Sounds like a simple job. It's should take 3 wires; ign, acc, and ground.

Re: Proper elec hook up for radio
Just hook the main power lead to the radio terminal on the fuseblock. Leave the memory lead connected to the always hot lead or else your radio will forget things.

Re: Proper elec hook up for radio
There are still flags on the wiring for the radio.
The Red wire which has the in line fuse says ACC. Should this be pigtailed into an ign hot wire? The yellow wire says battery. So I'll splice the yelllow line into a hot wire. |

Re: Proper elec hook up for radio
OK I got the wires figured out. Yellow to always hot and red to IGN connector. I checked and I have power into the the back of the radio all the time with the yellow. The IGN wire has power when turned on. The wires are hooked up correctly, according to the instructions. BOTH fuses are still good, but nothing happens. The ground is good.
CONFUSED. |

Re: Proper elec hook up for radio
Does the head unit itself have a fuse under the wire harness? And i mean under it like disconnect harness from head unit. Or anywhere else thats not in a wire line? If so it may have popped during all your trial and errors. Or in case you havent check you might have blown a fuse in the fuse box when you werent looking. If thats not the problem does the unit work when you just go hot all the time?

Re: Proper elec hook up for radio
And does it work when just red and yellow are together running "hot" all the time?
Do you have the ACC wire hooked up to the "radio" space in fuse box? If so, is tester lighting up when touching spade? On the bottom three fuses if fuse box is vertical the 1st and 3rd fuse should work when key is in all three positions (ACC/Start/On) if temp plug there you will maybe can start eliminating. Re: Proper elec hook up for radio
I haven't gotten to the radio, I've been fighting bigger battles on the heat/AC system. A diagram would be great!!!.
Thanks alot |

Re: Proper elec hook up for radio
Found it. I think that's what I eventually did, but I'll check it tomorrow. I did something else at first and I'm hoping that I didn't cook it! I'll double check the red wire connections on the in-line fuse holder. It wouldn't be the first time one of those came lose.
Thanks, |
